Day 71 -Strawberry Point IA to Madison WI, 171 miles - Monday, Sept. 15

Slo Jon and I got back to Wisconsin today.  We took the Cassville Ferry across the Mississippi River this morning, and then took a tour of the American Brewery Museum at the Potosi Brewery.

It's kind of sad, our last day on tour by motorbike.  Here we are eating breakfast at the Franklin Hotel, in beautiful downtown Strawberry Point, Iowa.

We had to wait about a half hour for the Cassville Ferry to arrive.

There is always something special about taking a ferry across a River, especially a magnificent river like the Mississippi.

We were the first passengers of the morning, and we watched the bulldozers work on the ferry mooring as we waited.

Here's Slo Jon riding his Honda up onto the Pride of Cassville -

All aboard, safe and sound !

The Potosi Brewery and the National Brewery Museum are about 15 miles north of the ferry landing on the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi.

Potosi beat out Milwaukee and St. Louis in their bid to house the National Brewery Museum.

Tickets cost $5 to tour the museum, but only $3 for me, since I'm a senior citizen now. The tour includes a glass of beer, so it's a great deal.

There are 3 floors of brewery advertisment, equipment, and historical information. It was fascinating !

This is what kegs used to look like. Below is a display of beer advertising sticks - these were used to wipe the foam off the top of the mugs in bars.

Below are a couple of the funny signs found on the Potosi Brewery doors -

Most breweries in business before 1900 had caves where the beer was brewed and stored. This would be before refrigeration.

Jon and I had a couple of beers and a nice lunch of brats and beer cheese soup before we left the brewery. Below is some of the events the brewery sponsors.

It started to rain while we were touring the brewery, so we put on our rain suits for the last 100 mile ride to Minona WI. We rode in on small backroads, and got to our friend Jim Moise's home about 4:00 pm.

What an odd feeling it is to be finished riding on a motorcycle adventure like this - a lot of mixed emotions.  No more packing, no more cold, no more rain.  But the spirit of the adventure is gone, it's over ...

In total, Slo Jon and I were gone for 47 days on our motorcycle trip. We traveled 8,598 miles on our bikes and had the time of our lives !!
